HARDWOOD SAND & FINISH SERVICES

Restore the Wood.
Redefine the Color.

Professional hardwood sanding, staining and finishing throughout Northern Virginia.

Existing hardwood can have decades of life hidden beneath worn finish, surface scratches and an outdated color. Refinishing allows us to remove the existing surface, expose the natural wood and create an entirely new look without automatically replacing the hardwood.

EXPERIENCE MATTERS

25+ Years Refinishing Hardwood.

We have spent more than 25 years sanding and finishing hardwood throughout Northern Virginia. Just as important as the finished floor is how we handle the home during the project — from furniture and vent protection through sanding, stain selection, finishing and the final setup.

BEFORE WE START SANDING

We Prepare the Home, Not Just the Floor.

A refinishing project takes place inside your home. Before the sanding begins, we prepare the work areas to make the process easier on the homeowner and help protect the surrounding space.

01

We Move the Furniture

Our team safely moves normal household furniture from the flooring areas included in the project so the hardwood can be properly accessed and refinished.

02

We Protect the Vents

HVAC vents in the active work areas are closed and protected where appropriate to help reduce the movement of sanding dust through the home.

03

Protect Adjacent Areas

We prepare surrounding areas and access points before work begins so the refinishing activity stays focused on the flooring areas being completed.

04

Professional Dust Control

Professional sanding machinery and dust-control equipment are used throughout the sanding process to help capture wood dust at the source.

05

Clean Before Stain

After sanding, the hardwood is vacuumed and carefully prepared before stain, sealer or finish is applied. A clean surface is an important part of the finishing process.

06

Furniture Goes Back

After the finish has reached the appropriate stage, we carefully return the furniture and consider floor protection during the final setup.

Our goal is a beautifully refinished floor with a carefully managed process inside your home.

Furniture handling, vent protection, professional equipment, dust control, cleanup and final furniture return are all considered as part of the project.

OUR REFINISHING PROCESS

From Worn Finish to Fresh Hardwood.

A quality finish depends on the preparation underneath it. We work through the floor in stages before the selected stain and finish are applied.

01

Prepare

Furniture is handled, vents and surrounding areas are prepared, and the hardwood is made ready for sanding.

02

Sand

The existing finish is removed and the hardwood is progressively sanded toward a clean, consistent surface.

03

Sample & Stain

Stain options are compared on the prepared hardwood before the final color is selected and applied.

04

Finish

The selected finishing system is applied and given the appropriate drying and cure time.

See What's Under the Old Finish.

Once the previous finish and surface wear are removed, the natural character of the hardwood becomes visible again. The grain, board variation and natural tone of the wood create the foundation for the new floor color.

These are visual color families for browsing — the actual floor sample is what matters. Wood species, grain, age, sanding preparation and lighting can all change the appearance of a stain. We recommend narrowing the choices and viewing stain samples directly on the prepared hardwood before making the final selection.
COLOR SELECTION

We Sample the Stain on Your Floor.

Instead of choosing the final color from a computer screen, we can compare selected stain options on the actual prepared hardwood.

This lets you see the color with your home's lighting, cabinets, wall colors and surrounding finishes before making the final selection.

THE TRANSFORMATION

Sand. Stain. Finish.

The same hardwood can take on a dramatically different appearance as it moves through each stage.

01 — SANDED Old finish removed and natural hardwood exposed.
02 — STAINED The selected color brings out the grain and changes the overall tone.
03 — FINISHED The final finish completes and protects the surface.
FINISH & PROTECTION

Complete the Surface.

Once the floor has been sanded and the desired color selected, the finishing system creates the final appearance and protective surface.

WHY PREPARATION MATTERS

The Final Coat Is Only Part of the Job.

Professional refinishing is not simply running a sanding machine across the floor. The preparation, sanding sequence, cleaning, stain sampling and finishing system all work together to create the finished result.

That is why we focus on the complete process — from preparing the home through the final setup.

FINISHING THE PROJECT

The Details Continue After the Last Coat.

Dry & Cure

The floor is given the appropriate time required by the selected stain and finishing system before normal use is resumed.

Furniture Return

Furniture is carefully returned at the appropriate stage, with floor protection considered during setup.

Final Walkthrough

We review the refinished areas and final details so the completed floor is ready for the next chapter of the home.
